Edna Louise Case

Edna Louise Warren Case, 98, of Charlotte, N.C., died Friday, July 22, 2016, at Aldersgate Retirement Community. A Memorial Service of Remembrance was held there on July 26, 2016.

Born in Fort Pierce, Fla. in 1918, she was the daughter of Alfred Warren and Ethel Doris Wolfe Warren. Playing the piano was a part of her life beginning in third grade. After graduating as her high school valedictorian, she pursued a degree in Public School Music, with a minor in piano at Florida State College for Women in 1940. She taught third grade in Winter Garden, then in Jacksonville, Fla. ,until meeting her husband at a USO dance after his return from the South Pacific at the end of World War II. They were married June 1, 1946, and moved to Elbert, Colo.

Mrs. Case and her husband, Arthur Lee Case, then lived in Ohio, Georgia and Florida before moving to Oak Ridge, Tenn., in 1962. Their son, Mike, was born in Colorado, and their daughter, Carleen, in Florida. Both children graduated from Oak Ridge High School and the University of Tennessee.

For 46 years, Edna was an involved member of First United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, was active in Women's Circles, and helped organize a wonderful church library. She worked for 10 years at the Oak Ridge Public Library, enjoying co-workers, patrons, and books.

She and her husband, Art, were charter members of the Knoxville Area Dulcimer Club, and they hosted weekly practices in their home for many years. Edna was also a member of the "Melodears" where she played the electric bass and the recorder.

In 2008, Edna relocated to Charlotte, N.C., at Aldersgate Retirement Community. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and the Chipley Class. She continued to play the piano for Vespers at Aldersgate.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Arthur Lee Case; as well as her brother, Howard A. Warren and his wife, Margaret, and her stepbrothers, Charles Horton and Thomas Horton.

She is survived by her son, Michael G. Case and his wife, Day, of Cornelius, N.C. and her daughter, Carleen V. Haselden and her husband, Michael, of Parker, Colo.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Holly Webb and husband, Michael, of Keller, Texas, Jonathan Case and his wife, Kristin, of Huntersville, N.C., and Tasha and Ryan Haselden, of Parker, Colo., and Nicole Kawulok and her husband, Matt, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and five great-grandchildren, Joshua Haynes, Jessica and Jackson Webb of Texas, and Aiden and Hudson Case of North Carolina.

A private graveside service will precede the Funeral Service, to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stella Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends in the Parlor after the service.
